Cetus in Action

Watch video clips of cetus technology in action.

Cetus waveflow animation
Animation of Cetus turbine prototype illustrating wave effects and reactions due to wave flows and turbulance. Watch video

Cetus single turbine
First tests with Rapid-Prototype polyurethane moulded blades, showing high-density blade configuration on a 1 metre single shaft.
Wave input 50-150 mm. Watch video

Cetus single turbine vertical
Demonstration of vertical axis deployment, revealing no change in energy conversion. This abilty of Cetus to maintain equal performance in all attitudes considerably enhances the scope of its design feasibility envelope. Watch video

Cetus twin turbine
First tests at Gunnamatta beach, Victoria, showing the twin turbine rig which facilitates direct comparison between blade type/configuration.
Although shown mainly with only the lower portion of the turbine in contact with the water, continuous output throughout flow directional changes may be clearly observed. Watch video

Cetus river turbine
A comprehensive range of river turbine configurations have been tested, incuding this single array, which transmits torque to a shore-based generator assembly via a rope ‘shaft’. A simple modular solution, which allows flexible placement of the turbine(s) in the strongest flows, whilst placing the generator in a secure and convenient shore location. Watch video

Cetus laboratory tests
Although a greater emphasis is placed on field testing in ‘real’ conditions, the Cetus research and development programme has included a significant amount of laboratory test time, both at Melbourne University, and in the U.K. at Wavegen’s test facility in Inverness. Tests have included effects on axis attitude change in linear tidal flows, load testing to determine torque/rpm values per blade, and other quantitive testing. Actual rpm is over 400. Watch video
